Pre-Summer Auto Detailing Checklist for Long Island

Step 1: Book a Full Detail by mid-May

The May Full Detail is the foundation. Reset interior fabric after a winter of road salt + boots + heavy use. Reset exterior paint after months of accumulated brake dust, salt deposits, and oxidation. Apply fresh hydrophobic protection that carries through summer.

Pricing: $300 sedan / $350 SUV. Service takes 4-6 hours. Book 3-4 weeks ahead (mid-April for a mid-May appointment) during the peak booking window.

What’s included in the May Full Detail:

• Two-bucket hand wash with iron decontamination and clay bar
• Wheel and wheel-well deep clean
• Hydrophobic spray sealant (or spray ceramic upgrade — see Step 2)
• Full interior shampoo with steam extraction
• Leather cleaning and UV-protective conditioning
• Vent and console steam clean
• Fabric protectant on cloth seats (critical — see Step 3)
• Glass polish, trim restoration, door jamb deep clean

Step 2: Add the spray ceramic sealant upgrade ($75)

The most-recommended add-on for Long Island summer prep. The standard hydrophobic spray sealant lasts 2-3 months — exactly when Labor Day arrives and protection starts to deteriorate.

The spray ceramic sealant upgrade swaps the standard sealant for an SiO₂-infused ceramic spray that lasts 4-6 months. Same application time, no extra prep. Water beads off cleanly through August, salt water sheets off rather than bonding, and the paint stays looking fresh through Labor Day weekend.

Take this add-on for any Long Island vehicle parked outdoors. It pays for itself in reduced washing frequency and preserved paint condition.

Step 3: Apply fabric protectant to cloth seats (included in Full Detail)

Often-overlooked, this is the highest-impact interior protection step. A professional-grade fabric protectant bonds to cloth fibers and prevents salt water, sunscreen, beverage spills, and beach-day sand from setting in.

Without fabric protectant: cloth seats absorb every spill and accumulate visible staining by August. With it: spills bead and wipe off; the seats look the same in September as they did Memorial Day.

Already included in every Full Detail at no extra cost. For Interior Detail bookings, confirm it’s applied (it should be by default).

Step 4: Condition leather with UV-protective product (included)

Hamptons sun bakes leather all summer. Without UV-protective conditioning, leather seats develop cracks, fade, and the gray haze common on aged leather.

The Full Detail’s leather conditioning step uses a UV-protective product (Lexol, Gtechniq L1, or equivalent). Lasts 60-90 days. For heavily-used vehicles, a mid-summer condition refresh in July keeps leather supple through the season.

Step 5: Add headlight restoration if lenses are yellowed ($60 add-on)

Skip this step if your headlight lenses are clear. Add it if they’re visibly yellow, hazy, or oxidized.

Wet-sanding restores clarity and a UV-resistant sealant prevents re-yellowing for 1-2 years. The work takes 60 minutes and adds $60 to the Full Detail bill ($75 standalone).

Worth it for night-driving safety and resale value. For most vehicles 5+ years old parked outdoors, this is overdue.

Step 6: Decide on a Bi-Weekly subscription for summer

For Hamptons summer-home owners and high-use beach vehicles, the May Full Detail alone isn’t enough — sand, salt, and wet swimsuits accumulate fast through July and August.

The Bi-Weekly Quick Detail subscription ($225/mo sedan, $270/mo SUV) is the standard add-on. Two professional 90-minute visits per month, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Strips salt and sand before they embed in carpet and paint.

Total summer investment for the full protocol:

• May Full Detail with ceramic spray upgrade: $375 (one-time)
• Bi-Weekly subscription, June through August: $225 × 3 = $675
• Optional: Mid-July leather refresh + interior wipe: ~$175

Total: ~$1,225 for a full summer of professional protection on a Long Island sedan. For an SUV: ~$1,400.

Step 7: Avoid automated car washes through summer

Tunnel washes and touchless car washes embed micro-scratches and strip protection. After a May Full Detail with ceramic spray, automated washes degrade the protection in a single visit.

Stick to hand washing at home (pH-balanced shampoo, two-bucket method) or rely on the subscription plan for professional service.
