Boat Detailing in the Hamptons: Pre-Season Prep & Maintenance
Quick answer
We coordinate boat detailing across the East End for our auto detailing clients — partnering with specialized marine detailers for the actual gel coat, teak, vinyl, and metal work. Pre-summer service typically runs 4-6 weeks before launch and covers exterior decontamination, oxidation removal, interior reset, and metal polishing. Pricing depends on boat size and condition; quotes are coordinated through us.

Boat detailing in the Hamptons and on the North Fork has its own rhythm, separate from the auto detailing schedule. The window matters: marina demand peaks in May before launch, and quality marine detailers book solid by mid-April. We work with a small group of trusted marine partners across the East End to coordinate boat detailing for our auto clients — single point of contact, bundled scheduling, no need to source a second operator for the boat.
Here’s how the service works, what’s typically included, and how to schedule it through us.
How we coordinate boat detailing
For our auto detailing clients who also own boats — and there are many across the East End — we coordinate boat detailing through specialized marine partners rather than trying to do it ourselves. The reasoning is simple: boat detailing requires gel-coat-specific compounds, marine vinyl products, teak care expertise, and dedicated marine equipment that’s different from what we carry on the auto detailing rig. Our marine partners are full-time boat specialists who do this work all day, every day, during the season.
What we handle:
- Booking and scheduling — single point of contact for both your vehicle and your boat
- Coordination with the marina — confirming slip access, water and power availability, tide windows
- Quote consolidation — we relay the marine partner’s quote to you and book on your behalf
- Follow-up — making sure the work was performed to standard and addressing anything that wasn’t
What our marine partner handles:
- All on-site work — wash, decontamination, oxidation removal, polishing, teak care, vinyl treatment, metal polishing, interior reset
- Marine-specific equipment, products, and disposal procedures
- Direct communication with the marina staff during the work
What pre-summer boat detailing typically covers
A pre-launch detail typically includes seven service categories, scoped to the specific vessel.
1. Gel coat decontamination. Saltwater, marina grime, and stored-season dust accumulate on gel coat over winter. Marine pH-balanced wash, iron decontamination spray, and clay bar treatment over the entire hull and topside.
2. Oxidation removal and gel coat polishing. Gel coat oxidizes faster than automotive clear coat — the chalky white haze visible on neglected boat hulls. Marine compounding restores gloss; heavily oxidized boats may need two-stage compounding.
3. Marine wax or sealant application. Marine wax (typically Collinite 925 or 3M Marine Premium) provides 2-4 months of protection. Some marine partners offer longer-term marine ceramic options as upgrades; that’s negotiated directly between you and the marine partner if you’re interested.
4. Metal polishing. Stainless steel, chrome, and aluminum hardware oxidize and pit during winter storage. Pre-launch service polishes all visible metalwork — rails, cleats, anchor mounts, bow rollers — and applies a sealant to slow re-oxidation.
5. Teak and wood treatment. Boats with teak decking, swim platforms, or interior wood need specific care. Teak cleaner, brightener, and oil/sealer applied in sequence. Some clients prefer the natural gray patina; treatment is adjusted accordingly.
6. Vinyl and upholstery. Marine vinyl on seats and cushions accumulates mildew during winter storage. Marine vinyl cleaner followed by UV protectant prevents both mildew growth and UV cracking through the season.
7. Interior detail. Cabins, heads, and storage areas — vacuum, surface clean, mildew check. Smaller boats may have only minor interior; cabin cruisers and yachts need substantial interior service.
When to schedule
The window matters. Peak demand for marine detailing on the East End runs from mid-April through Memorial Day. Booking before March 15 ensures preferred dates and avoids the late-spring rush.
Recommended booking timeline:
- Early February: Confirm regular client schedules with the marine partner, hold preferred slots
- Mid-February to mid-March: New client outreach, schedule complex multi-service boats
- Mid-March to mid-April: Standard pre-launch scheduling
- Mid-April to Memorial Day: Peak demand, last-minute requests
After April 15, we typically can’t accept new pre-launch boat coordination requests without pushing into mid-season.
In-water vs. trailered service
Both options work for pre-launch service, with different practical considerations.
Trailered service is simpler — vehicle access, fresh water available, full freedom to lift the boat as needed. Our marine partner can perform service at your home, in dry storage, or at a boatyard before splash.
In-water marina service requires coordination. Our marine partners need slip access, fresh water hose nearby, and permission from the marina manager. Most major Hamptons-area marinas — Sag Harbor Yacht Club, Montauk Yacht Club, Mitchell Park Marina (Greenport), Shelter Island Yacht Club — accept outside marine detailers with prior coordination, which we handle on your behalf.
Mid-season and end-of-season
For boats over 30 feet that see heavy summer use, a mid-season touch-up in mid-to-late July prevents the August/September decline most owners experience. End-of-season service in October before winterization preserves the boat’s condition through storage.
We can coordinate mid-season and end-of-season visits the same way as pre-launch. Recurring boat clients get priority scheduling alongside our regular auto clients.
How to start
Request a quote — let us know boat make, model, size, and current location (home / dry storage / which marina). We’ll loop in the right marine partner, get you a quote, and confirm scheduling. Available across Sag Harbor, Montauk, Shelter Island, Greenport, East Hampton, and the rest of the South Fork and North Fork.
